The Castle at Taunton NEW for 2012

Happy New Year!

You may have already seen press reports about the appointment of our new General Manager and I am now delighted to announce that Marc Mac Closkey will be taking up his position as GM at The Castle on Monday, 9th January 2012.

Marc, who is 42, comes from Co Mayo in Ireland.  He graduated from University College Dublin and has worked with some of the world’s greatest hotel companies, including Hyatt International, Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.

Marc is married with two daughters aged ten and eight.  He and his Dutch wife, Hilligje, have already spent a little time with us and they are very excitied about the family’s move to Somerset.

Louise and I very much look forward to introducing Marc to you shortly.

• In the New Year, we will be holding our second Wedding Fayre in conjunction with Love Actually Weddings. Join us Sunday, 8th January between 11.30am and 4.00pm for a spectacular display of wedding services and ideas. Admission is FREE!
• The Academy of Ancient Music returns to The Castle for a weekend of Baroque and classical music on period instruments. JS Bach, Telemann, Scarlatti and others. Four concerts – Friday, 27th January to Sunday, 29th January. Concert tickets £20.
• Wine Seminar, tasting & lunch: “Old World vs New World” Guests will be invited to compare and contrast the styles of the principal grape varieties from the Old and New Worlds under the expert guidance of Mike Lury of Corney & Barrow. The Seminar will start at 11.00am and conclude with lunch. Date: Thursday, 2nd February, 2012. Price: £49 pp to include all tasting wines, lunch and wines with lunch.
• The Nash Ensemble has built up a remarkable reputation as one of Britain’s finest and most adventurous chamber groups, and through the dedication of its founder and artistic director Amelia Freedman and the calibre of its players it has gained a similar reputation all over the world. Four concerts – Friday, March 23rd to Sunday, 25th 2012. Concert tickets £20
• The Knicker Lady™ is the hit show that romps through the history of the humble knicker with a tempo and hilarity that leaves audiences, both male and female, spellbound and dying for more! Friday, 16th March 2012 at 7.30pm. Performance only £15. Performance & set dinner £49.
