WOW – What an event in Exeter yesterday!

June 14, 2012

“A facility for quotation covers the absence of original thought”  So said Dorothy L Sayers – (born 13/6/1893)

Perhaps a mis-quote as there was tons of original thought at the Exeter Business Network event yesterday with over 80 decision makers from some of the top businesses in Exeter and the South West in attendance.

Far from the absence of original thought there was a host of conversations, connections and collaborations being made – a room full of opportunities

Held at Exeter Racecourse the day began with a Prospecting Masterclass hosted by Andy McCreadie of Sandler Training – full of extremely valuable information, tips and expertise

The Networking lunch had the added bonus of there being a preview of Deadly Intent – a cinema quality feature length paranormal thriller being filmed in Devon

The introduction from the host had a musical bent.  Inspiration drawn from the number ones in the UK charts in June during the 1980’s, 70’s and 90’s

“action generates opportunity or as New Order said ” Express yourself, create the space” – World in Motion (1990) – networking is all about action

Why the action?  Well as Wet Wet Wet said “We get by (should I say get success) with a Little help from my friends” (1988)

Networkers enjoy “being with you” – so admirably sung by Smokey Robinson (1981) much better than Wham’s 1985 Number 1 “Wake me up before you go go”.

Networkers know that building relationships is about -and i quote Tony Orlando and Dawn – “Knocking 3 times” (1970)

All of which can lead to the collaborations, connections, buying, selling, alliances that could be “sealed with a kiss” (Jason Donovan 1989)

Each of the tables was hosted by an Exeter Business Network member – all of whom relished the experience as can be seen by some of the replies when being asked!

  • What?!! AGAIN?!!  Oh, all right……………elbow twisted…….
  • In the words of George Orwell, “Happiness can exist only in acceptance.” Thank you – Alex Wren!
  • Would be an absolute pleasure!!! Although I think you have only asked me to try and get me there on time.
  • Blimey – you must be hard up!  Oh go on then – I’m an easy touch.  Can I send you an invoice?
  • I would love to be a table host tomorrow and  look forward to seeing you there.
  • As ever, a complete honour! Would be delighted!
