Tax saving, Tom Peters, e-Commerce, Maslow plus networking – is that a WOW!

November 8, 2012
“The magic formula that successful businesses have discovered is to treat customers like guests and employees like people” Tom Peters b 7/11/1940
November’s Exeter Business Network event saw a room full of the great and good from the local business community all engaging in  enthusiastic conversations generating a plethora of connections and opportunities.
If there was a scale for measuring  visibility and credibility the action and energy displayed yesterday – 7/11/12 – would have broken it!
New members welcomed in November – Veritas Legal Services Ltd and Andrew Price & Co
The seminar before lunch was hosted by Mary Jane Campbell – Partner at Simpkins Edwards and she shared a wealth of top tax saving tips.
  • Did you know that on the HMRC tax avoidance scale – level 1 is an ISA?
  • There are over 70 different types of income free from tax including Rent-a-room income up to £4,250 and Suggestion scheme awards
  • If you are required to work from home and have a room for this purpose you can claim an allowance based on the proportion of the total upkeep.  Alternatively, claim £3 per week, this doesn’t need to be supported by documentary evidence
For more details and to keep up to date
During the lunch an appeal was put out on behalf of Surf Livesaving GB – an Exeter based charity who lost everything in a fire at their Exeter HQ.  The appeal was for office space – and numerous offers were made and Glen King offered her extensive PR experience as a prize draw – everyone who contributed £10 was inn the hat and Catherine Petherick of Exeter Audi was drawn!  Over £400 was raised! Thank you.
As it was Tom Peter’s birthday reference was made to Tom’s fabulous article – Lunch!
Thank you to Nigel Wilkinson – WNW Design for the 10 minutes on e-Commerce – informative, enlightening and full of opportunities.- Nigel’s TOP TEN TIPS HERE
Following the lunch the seminar hosted by Cathy Towers – Exeter Mind and Body Clinic was a cerebral session – looking at the correlations between Maslow’s hierarchy of needs – the Eastern Chakra system and how we can apply different techniques to help in business – how we think, feel and deeply know the challenges and issues that we have…..

‘I wish I didn’t keep getting angry’

‘I wish I could approach problems and challenges with more confidence’

‘I wish I could feel happy, like I used to’

‘I wish that pain would go – and not come back’

‘I wish I wasn’t tired all of the time…..
