Report from  January’s Exeter Business Network Event at Exeter Racecourse

What a fantastic start to the year!

Thank you to Hugh Graham – The Bid Coach, Ian Smith of Winning Tenders and Vicki Stewart of Tender Victory for hosting a great seminar before the networking lunch  – “The A to Z of winning major new business contracts through the tendering process” dispelling myths, explaining the why you would tender (UK plc has approx £1trillion spend on contracts!), where you would find the tenders for your business, how you would plan to tender, what to say in your tender to stand out and the how to present to win.

THE Networking lunch took place in the fabulous surroundings of the  Denman Room with informal networking and welcome drinks.


Following an introduction by Sean Humby with a quote from Gypsy Rose Lee (born 9/1/1914 ) that could have been said about networking

Each person then delivered their table presentations – exchanged business cards and listened for opportunities.  The designated table hosts directed proceedings – ensuring each person had the opportunity to

  • Introduce themselves and their company/organisation
  • Outline what they do – the benefits that they bring to their customers/clients
  • The type of customers/clients they are looking to build relationships with
  • Asking how  the people around the table could help them and their customers/contacts
  • Talk about what they are looking to purchase, the challenges they may have (also think about this from the perspective of their clients)

The role of the table host is vitally important to the event and the hosts did a fantastic job – some of the responses when asked to carry out this were great
