Happiness and action at Bristol Business Network………

January 17, 2013

Bristol Business Network January 16th 2013 at Mercure Holland House Hotel and Spa

“”Action may not bring happiness but there is no happiness without action” William James

The event began with the seminar hosted by Nick Fox – Appleton Fox Wealth Management – “Your money or your life”  Nick brilliantly talked through building the solid foundations to protect your wealth and how important a will and lasting power of attorney is as part of the solid base.  Your retirement strategy should include the number that you need to have the life that you want – whether that is the yacht, the holidays or protecting the families wealth.  The use of trusts and preventing generational tax loss were discussed using some fabulous illustrations.  Nick talked about our liquidity bucket…….numerous tips and ways to ensure that you can have the best possible financial strategy planned out –

Followed by THE Networking lunch a combination of informal networking and welcome drinks. – with all attendees having a badge introductions are greatly simplified and the conversation flowed

Conversations, collaborations and connections

Conversations, collaborations and connections

Once people were sat at their designated tables and the Table Hosts explained the next part of the event.  Everyone then delivered their table presentations, exchanged business cards and listened for opportunities

During the presentations each person covered some (and in possibly all!) the following

  • Introducing their company/organisation
  • Outlined what they do – the benefits that they bring to their customers/clients.
  • What’s new in their world? What’s novel?
  • The type of customers/clients they are looking to build relationships with?
  • The clients/meetings/projects they have been working with/on – a great way to demonstrate their expertise
  • How the people around the table help them or their customers/contacts? What are they looking to purchase, what challenges are they facing?
  • Many talked about a case study, used a testimonial from a delighted client/customer and highlighted recent successes.
  • Why they are in the business  – a chance for everyones energy, passion and enthusiasm to shine through

The table to table networking session facilitated by the seating plan that every person had led to more conversations, connections and collaborations

Bristol Business Network Charity of the year 2013

Jessie May is a local charity that provides vital nursing care, within the family home, for children who have life limiting conditions. In addition they provide respite days, packed with activities, with expert care on hand giving parents and siblings a chance to do some of the things you and I take for granted – such as the weekly shop or perhaps even a trip to the zoo.

Other ways you can help

1. Many companies have charity committees – if yours does it would be great to get an introduction to the chair or other members.

2. As well as hard cash we also need IT hardware, office equipment, furniture etc. If you become aware that your company or a client company is getting rid of good stuff then you might point them in our direction?

3. Also as I mentioned we are currently collecting old mobile phones and inkjet cartridges for recycling which raises money for us. A new fundraising initiative is recycling old jewelry – gold silver, costume jewelry and watches broken and damaged all can be recycled and raise money for us.

4. You may be a member of a sports club, a choir, or other leisure group. These often raise money for charities also – consideration of Jessie May would be very helpful.

5. An opportunity for you to market your business through sponsoring our newsletter for example.

Or a great way of raising team morale by a team participating in a fun fundraising event.

If you want any information on any of these ideas then please email me or ring me – Chris Roys   Chief Executive   01179616840
