Lots of new news from Business Network SW members

July 19, 2013

It must be the sun or could it be the hot weather or is it the holiday season

Could it be the great sporting summer we are having (so much like 2012) a British Lions series win, Andy Murray winning Wimbledon, Justin Rose winning the US Open, a first match win in the Ashes or Chris Froome leading the Tour de France?

Whatever it may be, it has generated more news being sent to me in a week than ever before.

The news is full of opportunities for you and your business and also for those that you do business with – and come to think of it – those that you might want to do business with.  Nothing like sharing great information to help build a relationship!

Anyway that’s enough of me – here’s the news!

From Hugh Graham – The Bid Coach

How to prepare a presentation in less time

1. Start by deciding what it is that you want the audience to do after they have heard the presentation. Make sure there is at least one easy step that you want them to take as a result of listening to you! Spell out how this is more compelling than “do nothing”.

2. What are the key messages that you want them to hear? Keep this to 3 or less (otherwise, and by definition they can’t be key!). What evidences and proofs to you have that make these key messages compelling? List at least one for each key message, and also come up with at least one “benefit” to the audience for each key message.

3. What is the best order to present your key messages? Decide how best they will flow into one another and set up links between them, so they flow well into one another.

Finally, and most importantly practice delivering the presentation as often as you can (as a bare minimum 6-8 times). Even if you only talk to yourself or speak to the mirror it is critical to do this – it helps get the key messages embedded in your mind and when it comes to the real thing you will be able to focus on building rapport and credibility with your audience and not be worrying about whether you’ve said the right words or not!

People remember how you made them feel – not what you said!

Hugh has a plethora of great advice and tips……..

Winning new Business – all you have to do is ask!

The questions that you ask, and how you ask them, can be a vital component in building trust and rapport with your client. Get it right and you come across as interested, attentive and genuinely concerned about their business challenges. Get it wrong and you will appear intrusive, aggressive or questioning of their judgment.  Read more…

Exeter Racecourse – Open day for weddings at Exeter in August

Exeter Racecourse’s stunning River Room will be transformed into a wedding breakfast  for 40 guests  for two weeks during August,  enabling brides-to-be to get a taste of what it would be like to have a wedding on Haldon Hill.   The room will be fully laid out with cutlery, crockery and glassware plus chair covers, swags, table decorations and lighting to give the wedding party some ideas for their big day.    The open weeks are in conjunction with Cover Cupboard who have their unit at the racecourse.
The room, with breathtaking views across the racecourse, will be open from 9am until 5pm every day from August  19 until  30,  allowing people to pop in when they like and see for themselves what a special place the racecourse is.
The  Haldon Stand has been approved for civil ceremonies, which means the wedding ceremony and breakfast can all take place in one venue.
Michelle Thomas, who co-ordinates the weddings, said: “It’s a wonderful opportunity to come along to the racecourse and see just what we can do.  We have such a beautiful venue , with fantastic views and plenty of free car parking and therefore a viewing is highly recommended   “We offer first class facilities, excellent service and an idyllic setting which makes a beautiful backdrop for wedding photographs.”
Anyone wishing to visit can either call into the racecourse or give the racecourse a call and speak to Michelle or Jess to arrange a suitable time.  The Cover Cupboard can be contacted on 077537 42529 (Ann or Sarah)

Quacking great news from Optix Solutions

As a company that does not settle for ‘business as usual’, Optix Solutions always have new projects and developments in the pipeline, but even by their own standards the last three months have been pretty momentous for the whole Optix Solutions team.

Having outgrown their former Exeter city centre office, in May they finally moved to our new home in the heart of one of Exeter’s leading business centres – Marsh Barton.

The new Optix Solutions HQ boasts three times the floor space of our previous premises, bigger and better meeting spaces and plenty of room for our expanding team.

Alastair Banks and James Dawkins – 2nd and 3rd on left

They were glad they bowed to that pressure…
