From King to Gates with AE, mobile web supremacy, Einstein and Warhol in between

January 16, 2014
“We must use time creatively”
and
“Life’s most persistent and urgent question; what are you doing for others?” both from Martin Luther King born 15/1/1929 – the opening comments at the Bristol Business Network lunch on 15/1/14.
Peter Prater – The Payroll Department  hosted the seminar before lunch  – which detailed what businesses need to know about the mechanics of A.E and what they (you) need to do.   A real case of something being done for others!  Covering the the responsibilities, staging dates, postponements, contributions, qualifying earnings, opting out, opting in, net pay agreements, relief at source, The Pensions Regulator, NEST, NOW and much more!
There was much debate from those attending covering AWR, temporary workers the demographic impact of the baby boomers, the 10% opt out that has been experienced so far, the positive attitudes of the younger people working today, the poor way in which AE has been communicated…..
Any aspect of a business that can be outsourced to allow the owners and directors to concentrate on fee earning and driving the business forward needs to be done and Auto enrolment is no different – The Payroll Department will support by offering
  1. The initial assessment of your workforce (that can be a workforce of 1 upwards!)
  2. Continual assessment of your workforce at agreed dates
  3. Provision of communication items for the workforce
  4. Enrol eligible staff into the compliant pension scheme
  5. Provide data for pension provider
  6. Provide continual assessment for new starters
  7. Provide support with re-enrolment after 3 years
Who’d have thought AE was so easy!
For those that missed the seminar Peter is hosting a webinar is on 13/2/14 – contact Peter directly to reserve your place

The networking lunch was full of conversations – each person presenting their business to those around their table as well as doing a 30 second presentation about the person’s business to their left.
There was even a sharing of New Year’s resolutions from “saving more businesses” – “working to a 12 week year” (a super article here from Oliver Burkeman in The Guardian) – “playing classical guitar” – “achieving more by doing less” – “thinking outside the box”

Thank you to Daniel Collings of GWS Media for a fabulous 10 minutes “2014: Preparing your business for mobile web supremacy”– full of great insight, data, quotes and a clear reason for looking at our web presence and how it adapts (or not ) to the ever increasing audience use of mobile technology.  With quotes from Einstein, (we love Einstein!), Warhol, flexible (bendy) phones, statistics and a range of tools that can help any business Daniel really showcased what expert help and support can do!

Daniel talked about the future and change and ensuring that you have a responsive website- one that works on mobile devices as accessing the internet on mobile devices  has overtaken PC’s.  Summed up in Einstein’s quotes “I never think about the future – it comes soon enough…” and “The measure of intelligence is the ability to change.” and Warhol’s “They always say time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself”

Daniel’s Mobile Web Toolkit is  HERE

Whether it was the level of conversation or the fact that everyone was so engaged or was it the lack of signal!
