“Why do you do what you do?” Bristol Business Network April event

April 10, 2014

The question that Mark Leveridge came up with was great (I nearly said magical!) as it really did get beyond the features we have in our business and benefits that we offer.  The art of building great business relationships is really getting to know and understand the people behind the business and the responses to this question created a fantastic atmosphere of enthusiastic conversation…

Here’s a flavour of what people said….

“Wanted a business that was creative and fun – and this is it!”

“My son set up a business 13 years ago and asked for my advice/support and it’s been a delight to see it grow”

“I like to be nosey and running this business enable that nosiness to be useful and helps my clients businesses grow”

“After working in the corporate world and not suffering fools gladly I set up my own business”

“it’s a 4th generation business – and here’s to the future generations”

“I liked it so much I bought the company”

“A tragic event led to me joining the business”

That was only a part of the Bristol Business Network event that took place at Redwood Hotel & CC

As Seve Ballesteros (b 9/4/1957) said “To give yourself the best possible chance of playing to your potential, you must prepare for every eventuality. That means practice.”  and there was evidence of this in spades (wedges, putters, drivers!) at this event on 9th April.

Andy King of LP Wealth Management  delivered an informative, fact filled seminar (before THE networking lunch) that certainly raised some key questions about our (your) retirement planning…
  • average pension fund in the UK – £32,342
  • when does your state pension kick in?
  • pensions for children and grandchildren
  • what’s your adeqaute retirement income

THE networking lunch was full of conversation, energy and enthusiasm as conversations led to connections and collaborations.
With informal networking over drinks……….
Before sitting for a 2 course served lunch, each table expertly hosted to enable everyone to get the best opportunity to present and demonstrate the benefits that their business can offer – a catalyst to the engaging conversations and questions that help build and develop the relationships that are so important in business (and life!)
Among those at the event
Sam Finlay, David Minns, Sarah Palmer, Megan Humby, Sean Humby, Peter Wordley, Nigel Reece, Louise Golesworthy, Richard Graves, Daniel Collings, Della Hudson, Inge Dowden, Katherine Buck, Andrew King, Steven Brice, Mark Leveridge, Roy Adair, Sean Gilday, Matt Richardson, Lindsey Horton,  Peter Prater, Duncan Laker and Matt Goulette,

A new aspect of Business Network SW events is the business needs – those attending have the opportunity to ask for help/support/assistance – it could be for themselves or one of their clients/customers.  These included  “miniature horses for Katherine at Leigh Court” and an “internship/summer job for Sam Finlay’s son (studying maths at Birmingham University)” and looking at the exchange of business cards and conversations they could well have been met – thank you!
Steve Brice from LP Auto Enrolment Solutions delivered a short, sweet and to the point “10 minutes” on Auto Enrolment which is coming to a business like yours (and mine) –
