A castle, clouds, sun and numerous conversations
“In the beginning there was nothing and God said “let there be light”; and there was still nothing, but everyone could see it” David Thomas b 2/7/ 1932 founder of Wendy’s restaurants
A tenuous link but so true of networking – when you go to an event you may not see the opportunities but through the conversations that you have opportunities will be generated – having the right “optitude”*
What can I say other than thank you to all those that made the Exeter Business Network event on 2nd July at Bovey Castle such a success! A big thank you to Jonathon Bosley who captured the event on film (well digitally!)
The sun really did shine on everyone as they built the all important business (and personal) relationships that are so vital for success.
Thank you to Ian Dunstan and Jim Taylor from Cobalt Communications for a tremendous start to the event with their great seminar on the cloud – free of jargon and tech speak on how you and your business can be more efficient, effective and professional using the resources available – from Voip to Link to connectivity.
They spoke of examples of businesses that they are working with and how they have enabled them to have workers across the country – ultimate flexibility. What is amazing is how far technology has come and this is ably demonstrated by looking at what we use today – PC’s, laptops, tablets, smart phones (all of which can be connected using Cobalt’s expertise!) to what experts were saying……
“The world market for computers is maybe 5” Tom Watson – IBM founder 1943
“Computers in the future will weigh no more than 1.5tons” Popular Mechanics Journal 1949
And Bill Gates in 1981 said “640K ought to be enough for anybody”

How incorrect were those predictions…….. Photo courtesy of Jonathon Bosley
During the networking over drinks which took place inside and outside there were numerous conversations taking place
THE networking lunch where people enjoyed a 2 course served lunch at their hosted tables was where more conversations took place after each person had done their 3 minute presentation to the others around the table….
Also a BIG thank you to Mark Leveridge for being the “knight in shining armour” and stepping in at very short notice and delivering a super 10 minutes on what networking can do for you and your business – and the positive impact that it has had for Mark. And a brilliant piece of magic!
I would also like to than Phil from St Loye’s for his kind words and lovely gift – pride of place on my desk – I still have paper in the office! Anyway that any business can support the great work that charities do should be actively sought – a real win win for all.

Some feed back that I have received following the event
From Andrew Armstrong WESC Foundation “I just wanted to thank you (Glen King) for doing such a brilliant job as table host yesterday and for coming up with more great fundraising event ideas for us. I hope to be able to tell Jon about them later today, I’m sure he will be impressed”
And from Glen King
“Hi Sean
I just wanted to say that was the best venue for BNSW that I have been to since I started coming in the mid 90s.
Great location, fabulous food, gorgeous Marlborough Estate NZ wine (my favourite) and the staff were lovely, friendly and helpful.
I don’t eat chocolate so they served me a fabulous plate of fresh fruit which looked like a piece of art!
We will do some social media on this tomorrow and tag in the hotel….
Well done and please pass on my feedback to the relevant people.”
