Nurturing through poetry – possibly! by Sean Humby – August 2017 update!
After reading a Blog post on HubSpot titled “Your Leads Are Annoyed With You: Here’s Why” by Lisa Toner it got me thinking. I have copied the opening paragraph here – please read the whole of Lisa’s article – it is great
In an effort to be different and perhaps to use those creative juices that exist (somewhere) I often use some basic – very basic poetry – perhaps rhyme is a better description – as part of the messages that I send out. If this is a form of nurturing then that’s great – what I do know is that it does create responses where none have previously been – even if it is an “derogatory” acknowledgement! Often I get a poem as a reply!
Having looked through the book shelves here at Business Network SW HQ I have noticed that poetry is often collated into an anthology. So here’s mine!
Firstly an introduction.
The rhymes are used predominantly as part of an invitation to to the events that I host in Bristol – so I guess that this anthology has a common theme!
They start with those used most recently – hence the Bank Holiday theme! (And it is through pure coincidence that the first one has BNSW as the opening letter on the first lines – now there’s a thought!) After that there is no theme as in other anthologies – more often than not based on when in the month the next event is and where in the communication trail (yes there is one!) the person is. A trail not a process – a journey to more opportunities, an expedition to develop a network, a trek (leisurely and enjoyable!) to more conversations when people get together!
Enough of an intro
The rhymes begin here, with gusto!
Bank holiday weekend is nigh
Not another poem you sigh
Surely not more rhyme
Where do I get the time
It’s important I must say
To communicate everyday
With the event coming up soon
Why wait until high noon
You’ll network, converse and connect
With a group that could be perfect
Knowledge, ideas and solutions will flow
That encourage your business to grow
By remembering to book this event
You’ll greatly reduce the emails sent
With your place confirmed and all done
You can relax knowing that opportunities will come

Not a tremendous of sun
S o perhaps to bring some cheer
W ith a new rhyme I fear
I trust to brighten your hue
The 10th September maybe distant
But you can book in an instant
You’ll greatly reduce the emails sent
With your place confirmed and all done
You can relax knowing that opportunities will come
With a group that could be perfect
Knowledge, ideas and solutions will flow
That encourage your business to grow!

The poem may have been missed
The text just in a list
So if my call is what you need
I’ll do it today, as agreed!
Rather than wait and delay
Book your place today
____________________________________________________________________________________
Perhaps the first was never found
So this one is, I trust, sound
This invitation is yours
It will open doors
Rather than wait and delay
Book your place today
___________________________________________________________________________
Will you be booking your place?
I know it’s 5 days to go until we meet face to face
What with a super seminar and lunch
And conversations with a connected bunch
If you have booked already, thank you
This is purely information for you!
If you haven’t done yet
Then please feel free to get
Your place booked right here

Poetic reminder number one
The one on Monday I shouldn’t have done
You know what it’s about
So rather than a shout
A little rhyme or two
Should hopefully do
All I need is a yes or a no
Then I’ll go
To encourage others to attend the lunch
Supporting the charities a whole bunch
The poem is stuttering
Maybe I’ll be muttering
It’s not what you think
All you need to do is click on the link
___________________________________________________________________________
Thank you for the email you sent
Certainly full of ideas and intent
To help bring your scrapbook
To life in in your home, for a great look
So why not tell more
And bring your business to the fore
Sean’s email is here
I trust to bring you some cheer
With a seminar that will deliver a mine
Of ways to get more from your time
Followed with lunch, 2 courses in all
With conversations to enthrall
Feel free to book here
Your attendance I hold dear
As to those who’ll be there
With opportunities to share

Week 3’s reminder to you
A simple click and tick here
And you can lend an ear
To those that are booked
Having their lunch cooked
If a reminder’s what you need
To help you succeed
Then that’s on it’s way
But not if you’ve booked today!

To avoid the rhymes, the call, the text
You know what you need to do next
Feel free to book your place here
It’s sure to bring you more than cheer!

Poems one and two
Obviously just did not do
Perhaps number three
Will encourage a looksee
At the list of those booked
Will it get you hooked
And lead to reserve your place
We’ll meet face to face
At the seminar, definitely at the lunch
You’ll see that the list has a tremendous bunch
So let the opportunities begin
By counting yourself in
The link to book is here
You know your attendance is dear
To my heart
So feel free to take part

A surprise for me
As poems one, two and three
Have perhaps been missed
And as you are not on the list
For the lunch on the sixth
A chance for a mixth
Plenty of networking for you
Opportunities that will do
Much for your business success
You know the process
Feel free to book your place
Rather than join the race
As you know what’ll be next
Another poem, a call, a text

Week 1’s reminder to you
It’s an easy thing to do
A simple click and tick here
And you can lend an ear
To those that are booked
Having their lunch cooked
If a reminder’s what you need
To help you succeed
Then that’s on it’s way
But not if you’ve booked today!

Bank Holiday Weekend
And we tend
To forget Monday’s a day of rest
And I will not text
So to guarantee your place
Feel free to grace
Your mouse to the link
And I’ll join you for a drink
It’s the 8th of May
An opportunity laden day
And with 3 emails sent
I do wonder where they went
Perhaps this one’s worth a look
And you’ll book
___________________________________________________________________________
With only hours to go
It’s time for your name to show
On the list for next week
There’s opportunities to seek
The poem gets longer
As the invites get stronger
Delighted to extend
Your invitation to attend
June’s lunch on the twelfth
It’ll be great for the health
And your business will thrive
As the opportunities arise
Feel free to book your place
Guaranteeing you’ll show your face
Remember the seminar before
It could open up many doors
Feel free to file away
You know reminders will be on their way!
____________________________________________________________________________________
My holiday’s now done
There was plenty of sun
And with 12 days to go
That’s 288 hours you know
I’d be delighted if you’d look
Maybe you’ll book
A networking seminar before the lunch this time
There’s not much more to this rhyme
That’s enough I think
Feel free to book on this link!
A quote from F R Drew is next
Just to draw attention to the text
“Secrets of conversation lead to opportunity”
____________________________________________________________________________________
This is it, the final email
But I do not want to fail
In trying to get you along to the lunch
With a wonderful bunch
So, you’ve guessed what’s next
It’s the text
Then the call
And that will be all
Unless of course you’ve clicked here
You’re attendance I value dear!
____________________________________________________________________________________
These people are booked
So take a look
My call or text
Are guaranteed to be next
____________________________________________________________________________________
A call is next
Or will it be a text
Why wait and see
Book your place, feel free
____________________________________________________________________________________
The penultimate email I promised
Did it get noticed?
Because you know what’s next
Before my call, the text
What can I say
As I contact you today
The lunch is next week
And all that I seek
Is a yes or a no
As you may want to go
To not only the lunch
To join a super bunch
Feel free to book your place
It’ll be great to meet face to face
The poems may get longer
As my skills get stronger!
____________________________________________________________________________________
With only 2 days to go
Your name doesn’t show
On the list for the lunch
Do the messages lack punch?
So rather than wait and delay
Book your place today
It’s Monday so I’ll call
But that won’t be all
Without a reply, it’s the text
It always comes next!
____________________________________________________________________________________
40 booked but not you?
Clicking this link here, is all you have to do!
____________________________________________________________________________________
A text will
Will be next
And last of all
A call
____________________________________________________________________________________
I’ve nearly done it all,
Except the call,
Only to ask if you can make it on Wednesday
Sure to be an opportunity filled day
____________________________________________________________________________________
Today, poets day does fall
And with a Bank Holiday coming up for all
A short reminder rhyme
For the May event is in a very short time
It’s an invitation only event
That’s why post has been sent
With a seminar that will delight
It’s about AE, an insight
Hosted by experts Lansdown Place, you know
That your time spent will have benefits to show
Combined with the networking lunch conversations
You’re certain to develop and build your connections
So rather than delay
Why not book your place today
If you want more details
Feel free to look at what the event entails….
____________________________________________________________________________________
This thank you for you
Is to acknowledge what you do
To help Bristol Business Network grow
And let the opportunities flow!
Addendum!
Back to work, now the holiday’s done
Now a September full of sun
So here’s a quick reminder rhyme
Would you please give it some time?
The 10th September is next week
It is not just your attendance I seek
Your knowledge, enthusiasm and conversation
Are also part of the equation
Remember to book this event
And you’ll greatly reduce the emails sent
With your place confirmed and all done
You can relax knowing that opportunities will come
You’ll network, converse and connect
With a group that could be perfect
Knowledge, ideas and solutions will flow
That encourage your business to grow!

Hence this very simple rhyme
All I ask is a look
Perhaps you’ll even book
Your attention, this far, I hold dear
I look forward to perhaps a greeting
At this the next meeting
That’s Sean Humby out, with a bow
Hence this very simple rhyme
All I ask is a look
Perhaps you’ll even book
Now there’s a word that rhymes with umpteenth
With super seminar, conversations and lunch
Connections’ll be made, that’s my hunch
And I shall certainly cheer
And your place will be booked, and that’s a fact
With opportunities ready to knock at your door
I trust that this’ll show
In the space of a minute!
Your attention, this far, I hold dear
At this the next meeting
That’s Sean Humby out, with a bow
