Super seminar and THE networking lunch – 8th July at Exeter Business Network
The 8th of July is a day that certainly has helped me with content for this post! ALL relevant to this networking event! Facts, quotes and even a ghost story from the venue!
A quick Google search led me to…..
- John Styth Pemberton was born in 1831 – an American pharmacist who invented Coca-Cola in 1885 – did you know that Pemberton later sold the recipe, equipment and machinery to manufacture the drink to Asa G. Candler for $1200!
- Alfred Binet born in 1857, a French psychologist. In 1905 he developed a test in which he had children do tasks such as follow commands, copy patterns, name objects, and put things in order or arrange them properly – the “IQ” (intelligence quotient) test! The IQ is the ratio of “mental age” to chronological age, with 100 being average
- And finally a quote from the architect Philip Johnson born in 1906 who said “I got everything from someone. Nobody can be original.“
- Super seminar before lunch – 10am – 11.45am – “How Google is changing and what you need to do about it!”
- Networking over drinks 11.45am – 12.30pm

Seminar before THE networking lunch
How Google is changing and what you need to do about it!
Hosted by Richard Hussey from RSH Copywriting
The rules behind Google’s search rankings are changing significantly and we are just starting to see some of the effects. Within a few years, these changes will make our current obsession with ranking on page 1 for specific keywords completely redundant.
Additionally, one of the world’s most respected SEO consultants recently proclaimed that: ‘Building relationships is now more important than search engine optimisation for a business that wants to be visible on line.’
We’ll take a look at what is driving Google from a business perspective, the technology it is using, and – most important – what businesses need to be doing about it.
Richard produces website content, blogs, video scripts and all varieties of on-line and printed marketing – your route to greater awareness, trust in your brand, and productive online relationships. Creating and promoting content that is good enough and relevant enough to appeal to potential customers – that represents your authentic voice and provides valued and trusted answers to the most important questions your customers are asking. @RichardHussey1
Coffee and networking from 10am and seminar starts at 10.30am (optional, always rewarding, included in the price and a great networking opportunity!)

- Lord Haldon Country Hotel
- Haldon House c1940 before the fire
Some history about the Lord Haldon Hotel, Exeter is but a short drive away from this rural hotel which is based around what remains of an early eighteenth century mansion. Stay here and you may catch sight of not one, but three ghosts……
The most tragic story is that of an eighteenth century servant girl who appears to be distressed and dripping with water. Locals believe she became pregnant by a man of higher social standing, and was murdered in the lake to avoid a scandal.
A more mysterious ghost, seen several times, is a large man with rolled up sleeves. He appears by the frosted windows in the back of the old lounge, next to what used to be the stables, and when his outline is seen through the windows, his height matches the previous floor level.
Another unexplained ghost is a young girl who knocks on guests' doors and calls out their first names in the early hours, between 1 and 3 in the morning. Guests and staff have also heard sounds of footsteps when nobody is there.
